My name is Captain Doug Martin. I was raised in a small rural town in Iowa. It is there where I grew up fishing in rivers, creaks, ponds, and small lakes. I can remember riding my bicycle with a fishing pole strapped to it in some manner usually involving a cloths pin and some form of tape. No one could keep me from a good days fishing.
I joined the Army four days after I graduated High school and by summers end I was jumping out of planes for a living with the 82nd Airborne Division. I am a disabled veteran and had a colorful and adventurous military career. I served in support of Operation Just Cause, Desert Shield / Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. I am very proud of my service and even more proud of those who are still serving. I am sure that we can share lots of life's stories while we have a good time fishing.
I moved to the Tampa area after I separated from the service in August of 2006. I have been hooked on the greater Tampa Bay area and the fishing ever since. I always wanted to be a Fishing Guide and more over a Captain. I am a U.S Coast Guard Licensed Captain, fully insured, and I am a member of the Florida Guides Association (click on the linked icon below). I provide the fishing gear, bait, and your fishing license. All you have to do is show up with what ever you want to drink on the boat and any snacks that you want. I love the water, and I love fishing more than breathing. I really enjoy teaching others how to fish and sharing a bit of nature along the way.
I have had many great teachers over the years, both mentors that I have personally fished with, and also great Captains that I have grown up watching on TV and listening to on the Radio. I feel it is now my turn to pass that knowledge on to you and others that want to learn.
I specialize in inshore, nearshore, and flats fishing. I use all types of fishing techniques such as artificial baits, live baits, and trolling. One of my favorite things to do is see a charter member of the crew entice a fish to bite an artificial bait for their first time. They know then that there is no luck to fishing (well lets not get too crazy, we all need some luck) its all technique. I have even taught charter crew members how to throw a cast net for the first time. I keep a smaller one on board to assist in the learning curve.
Book a charter with me and we can not only have a good time but hopefully become friends as well. I want everyone to have a good time and at a minimum, catch a smile from everyone on the boat.
